The South Alabama Film Festival is proud to announce its 2009 film schedule.  Starting on November 6 and running through November 8 the South Alabama Film Festival will be showcasing nine feature-length films and various short films in the festival’s three main venues: the Crescent Theater, Bernheim Hall and 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center.  The festival will also have several special event showings over the three days.

The festival’s feature films debut Friday night with Rootsy Hip.  Rootsy Hip, directed by University of South Alabama student Isabel Machado, is a documentary that follows a group of white hip-hop artist from this area as they struggle to find their place.  This will be a world premiere event.

On Saturday, the festival will continue with the Alabama premiere of A Genesis Found.  A Genesis Found, partially filmed in Moundville, Alabama, is an adventurous narrative that tells the story of a family’s past, dark secrets and extraterrestrials.

Sunday, November 8, the festival concludes with the world premiere of Saints of Mt. Christopher. Filmed in Mobile in 2008 and 2009, Saints of Mt. Christopher is filmmaker Shane Dean’s story of three different characters and their three different journeys to one destination.

Other Mobile feature premiers include Mississippi Queen, Rocaterrania, Invisible Girlfriend, Triptych, The Other Side of Paradise and We Fun.

Short films featured in the festival include: Farm Team, the documentary of the Mobile BayBear’s grounds crew; the award-winning short Residue; the locally made sci-fi short The Strange Experiment of Dr. Purefoy; and many more.

Special screenings during the festival include the November 6, Cathedral Square showing of the film scramble competition films, We Love Mobile, and the festival high school film contest screening on Saturday, November 7, hosted by the Gulf Coast Exploreum and Alabama Public Television.

Tickets for all ticketed events will be $5, or $25 for a weekend pass.  Tickets can be purchased at The Crescent Theater on Dauphin Street beginning Wednesday, October 28th.
